Questions

Frequently asked, plainly answered.

If the answer you need is not here, the office phone rings at the warehouse desk and someone calls back the same day.

Giving

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Harborlight is a registered 501(c)(3) and your receipt arrives by email within minutes, with our EIN on it.

Can I cancel monthly giving?

Any time, from the link in any receipt. No phone call, no retention script, no hard feelings.

Where does my money actually go?

91 cents of every dollar goes to programs. The full audited breakdown and our Form 990 are on the about page.

Can I give to a specific program?

You can, and we will honor it. We gently prefer unrestricted gifts because need moves faster than campaigns do.

Do you accept stock or DAF grants?

Both, plus employer matches and bequests. The donate page lists the details for each.

What if a campaign over-funds?

We close it and say so. Extra funds roll into the same program the following season, never into overhead.

Using the pantry

Do I have to prove I need help?

No. There is no means test, no paperwork, and no queue. Walk in during open hours and take what your family needs.

How often can I come?

As often as you need to. Most households come every two weeks; some come once and never again. Both are fine.

Can someone pick up for me?

Yes. Tell us the name, or just send them — we are not going to interrogate anyone standing in a cold parking lot.

Do you deliver?

To homebound neighbors, yes, on Monday and Friday mornings. Call the office to get on the route.

Volunteering

What is the minimum commitment?

None. Take one shift and decide afterward. Most people who stay started that way.

Is there an interview?

No. There is a fifteen-minute orientation on your first shift, mostly about where things live.

Can my kids volunteer?

Twelve and up on the pantry floor with a parent; any age at the Thanksgiving packing day.

Can my company do a group day?

Yes, and warehouse Saturdays are the best fit. Email the office and Tom will sort the logistics.
